Dear Parents,

Chicka, Chicka, Boom, Boom, we sure had fun in our room!!!  What a great start to our school year.  It was been a pleasure to meet our new families and welcome our returning families.

We jumped right into storybook land by going on a letter hunt, making our own Chicka tree, baking and eating cookies and making our first big book about, “If You Give A Mouse A Cookie”.  We used the Smartboard to count cookies.  We also chased letters up the Chicka tree on the Smartboard.  The new song we learned was, “Who let the letters, out? Who? Who?”  We finished the week by hearing the story of Corduroy and we helped him find his buttons.

Our class also learned how special God made us!  We read the story “Designed by God, So I Must Be Special”!  This week we counted and graphed if we were boys or girls, eye color, and hair color.  These activities reinforce counting and more, less and the term equal.

My philosophy on reading is to immerse the children in stories, print and language.  One-way to do this is by making books with predictable text which enables them success and confidence with print and language.  The book we will be making this week will be “Pre-K, Pre-K, Who Do You See?”  This will be kept in the classroom for the children to read, but make sure you take a peak at it!

I sent home September “Read Aloud” sheets and “Letter Bags” are being sent home today.   The “Read Aloud” program reinforces pre-reading skills.  Please know that every age and skill level will be comfortable with this type of whole language approach and no one is excluded.  We are a community of learners in our classroom!

Be sure and come to our curriculum night next Tuesday, September 16th at 6:30.  This night is for parents only but the children have a surprise waiting for you!

Just a few business items:  This year as a staff we are really working on reinforcing the dress code.  Please take a peek at the dress code and make sure you feel comfortable with it.  It is a high importance that children wear the proper shoes to school.  Please no open toe shoes, front or back and no “crocodile” shoes.  It is very hard for the children to play on the playground with these types of shoes.  Thank you!

Thank you for bring your children to St. Paul’s Pre-Kindergarten!!   What attentive parents you are.  Thank you for signing up to bring things for the classroom when asked.   Your children are loved!  They are doing such a great job and have started to settle in!

God bless you and have a wonderful week!
