Pre-K Orientation

Dear Pre-Kindergarten Parents,

Welcome to St. Paul Parish Preschool! I look forward to a year of fun and learning with your child!  Together we can make this a wonderful, positive experience.  I am eager to get off to a great start and am very excited about all the learning and fun that will happen this year!

There is a great deal of information to pass on to you at the beginning of the year.  Hopefully, I will be able to answer many of your questions in this letter.  Please feel free to talk to me about any questions or concerns you may have.

Please note the following:

1.  Clothing:  Please make sure you have your child’s name on all extra clothes they bring to school.  This includes jackets, sweaters and sweatshirts.  They will need a complete set of clothes, including socks, to keep at school in case of an emergency.  Please send clothing in a large Ziplock bag, with their name on the outside of the bag.  If your child does need to be changed, please make sure their extra clothing gets replaced by their next school day.

2.  Snack:  We will have snack around 1:45.  I ask that you supply a small healthy snack for your child, such as fruit, cheese and crackers, etc.  You will need to send a drink with you child that is 100% juice or milk is  fine.  You must have at least two different servings from the food pyramid.

3.  Drop off:  School begins at 12:00 and you will drop off and sign in your child in the pre-kindergarten classroom.  Students are not allowed in the classroom until 12:00.  Thank you for being considerate of this rule.  I have a short time between classes to get organized and have a lunch break and every minute counts.   I ask that after your child is settled in that you say your good-byes quickly.  I understand that the first few weeks may be a little harder to make the separation, but I promise you they will be fine!  I will call you if your child does not feel comfortable – I promise!!  I want what is best for your child

4.  Pick up:  At 3:00, (2:30 every Wednesday), I will have your child waiting for you at the far end of the Parish Center in the back parking lot.  Please park and walk up and sign your child out.  Please do not park in the front two rows closest to the Parish Center.  This will help insure the safety of all students.  Please use the crosswalk when picking up your child.    Your child will be asked to wait to greet you until after they have been signed out.  This will help insure their safety.  If you are running late and everyone has been picked up your child will be taken to the school office and you may pick them up there.

5.  Mass:  We will be attending Mass once a month in the St. Paul Room.  Please check our monthly class calendar for Mass days.    On Mass days, please bring your child to school at 11:45.  Bring them to the Pre-K room like usual and sign them in.  Please have your children wear nice clothes on Mass days.  Also, you are   always welcome to attend with your child during the morning all school Masses.  Please check the Voyager for times and dates for all school morning Masses.

6.  Newsletter:  I may send home a newsletter once or twice a monthly but will keep you informed about daily happenings through a monthly calendar. The calendar will inform you of themes and letters being studied and any special days we have.  The calendar may list special instructions so please watch it closely!  The school newsletter will be coming home with your child.  The school newsletter is called “The Voyager”.  It is available to view on-line at www. sploveskids.com.

7.  Parent Helpers:  If you would like to help in the classroom, please sign up when you come on orientation day.  I won’t be starting volunteers until October.

8.  We follow the same dress code as the rest of the school.  Please check your handbook for specific information.  No open toe shoes or sandals please!  Shoes must have a back on them.

9.  If your child is tardy you will need to sign-in at the front office and bring us the pink tardy slip, otherwise your child may be counted absent.  If your child will be going home with someone else, I will need a note.  Also, if someone else will be picking up your child you must send me a note and you may add him or her to your authorized people on your pick-up list in the school office if it is someone who will be picking up frequently.

10. If your child is absent for any reason you will need to notify the office.  If you would like us to also know that your child is gone please e-mail or call and leave a voice mail my number is 344-1401 X308.

11. Sharing:  Sharing will start the first week of October.  I will send home information about which day your child will have sharing.    Please encourage your child to bring an item that relates to what we are learning about.  Children should not bring other toys to school.  Toys from home will sneak by, but we want to stress the one-day a week sharing.  Please do not send guns or any kind of weapon for sharing.

12. Birthdays:  If your child has a birthday during the school year, you are welcome to bring in a treat for the celebration.  The celebration will take place during the scheduled snack time.  Please check for any allergies the students have. If your child is having a party I ask that you not hand out invitations at school, unless everyone is invited.

13. Book Orders:  I will send home  Scholastic Book Order forms with your child monthly.  I often send home Firefly and Seesaw book order forms.  If you order from more than one form you may write one check to Scholastic. This is a great way to add to your child’s library and earn new books for the classroom.  Of course, it is completely optional.

I hope this information is helpful to you!  Please check your child’s backpack daily.  I ask that the children have regular size backpacks, no rolling backpacks.

Your child will be receiving a letter from me soon!

Please feel free to talk to me if you have further questions not answered here.  The school’s phone number is 344-1401 and my extension is 308.  Or, e-mail me at lzerzan@saintpaul-school.org

We will have a wonderful year together, I can guarantee that!!  I am excited to get to know your child and you.  Thank you for choosing St. Paul Parish Preschool!  You made the BEST choice.

Jesus Is In Our Hearts!
